Roman Stylized Bronze Griffin Attachment

DESCRIPTION:

This is an example of the imaginative nature of Rome’s ancient craftsmen. The soft curves of this stylized bronze griffin playfully arc through the air, seemingly attached by one leg in the rear and one in the front. The large head contains two spry ears atop the dull eyes and wide-curving beak. This bronze attachment dates from approximately 100 AD – 300 AD, just as Rome’s regal façade was beginning to wane. This piece remains in excellent condition.
