A Greek Marble Head of a Young Male

Much like today, Greek citizens had portraits made of their children, so this marble bust of a Greek boy would have been proudly displayed among the family’s possessions. It is interesting to note the boy’s hair, which sits almost unkempt on top of his round head. His lips are slightly parted, as though on the verge of speech, possibly a reflection of the boy’s early education. This Greek child’s bust is somewhat more mystifying than that of an adult’s. Did he grow up to be a merchant, or a soldier? Or possibly this bust was commissioned as a memorial? Regardless, this object’s connection to history is undeniable, and would be a wonderful object that poses more questions than it answers.
