A Persian Bronze Dagger with a Zoomorphic Handle
The highly stylized design of this ancient Persian dagger is almost whimsical, yet there is no doubting the fierce nature of such a finely crafted blade. The thin blade contains a raised ridge down the length of either side, while the delicate handle is shaped with the head of an ancient unidentifiable animal. The animal’s neck becomes the dagger’s delicate handle, while the top of its head forms the hilt’s flattened base.
This long dagger measures 28 cm from tip to base, making for a formidable weapon for any opponent. Over the millennia, the bronze’s original polish has aged into the handsome green of antiquity. This piece remains in excellent condition, dating from approximately 1400 BC – 900 BC.
